Engaging in conversation in the spirit of historic salons, being able to discuss opposing opinions, and providing a safe space for exchange on equal terms—these were the aims of various exhibition formats at the Museum Burg Posterstein. Here we collect past projects.
Taktvoll
The cabinet exhibition “Taktvoll – Vom Salon zur Musikschule” (Taktvoll – From Salon to Music School, February 2 to August 17, 2025, at Posterstein Castle) provided insights into the history of music and music education from the era of historic salons to music schools. Visitors were invited to actively participate by contributing personal mementos and experiences.
Italy, Destination of Desire
The exhibition “Italy, Destination of Desire – The painter Ernst Welker on Travels and in the Salon of the Duchess of Courland” (July 17 to November 23, 2022, Museum Burg Posterstein) presented the painter Ernst Welker (1784–1857), who also stayed at the Duchess of Courland’s castle in Löbichau as a drawing teacher to her granddaughters.
#SalonEurope: analog meets digital
In 2018, the #SalonEuropa exhibition focused on current and historical opinions about Europe. Various events accompanying the exhibition brought the idea of historical salons into the present day. The focus was on the pressing question: What is the best place for social exchange today? Where can people engage in conversation on an equal footing today?
